HEALTH & HYGIENCE SESSION FOR GIRLS OF CLASSES X, XI & XII

“Health is a state of complete physical, mental, social and spiritual well-being, and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity”.

The Health & Wellness Programme of the school helps the young generation by adding strength to their natural abilities which inculcates the habit team work and increases their productivity. Under the guidance of Dr. Alka Saxena, Deputy Director (Health & Wellness), BBGS, a Session was organized on “Health, Wellness & Hygiene of Girls” on November 21, 2017. This is one of the initiatives of the programme to empower the young girls about the importance of hygiene in their growing years.

The session was interactive and helped the students to understand the problems they could counter at the onset of puberty. The girl students of Classes X, XI and XII attended the session with their teachers.

The session was taken by Dr. Chandan Kachru , DMS and Consultant OBGYN and Adolescent Health Specialist with Pratisksha Hospital, Gurgaon. The objective of the session was to apprise the students about the importance of Health & Hygiene in their formative years so that they have a healthy life. Ma’am detailed about PUBERTY as the BEGINNING OF CHANGES which are biological, cognitive, emotional and social. To cope with this, A HEALTHY & BALANCED MEAL IS MUST. Food pyramid was explained along with tips on healthy diet. MENARCHE WAS EXPLAINED along with terms like Dysmenorrhoea and Leucorrhoea. Dr. Kachru also talked about the importance of hygiene practices during this period. A detailed description of Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) was given along with some signs and symptoms to look out for, like acne and facial hair, weigh gain, irregular cycle with excessive or less flow, etc. She also shared that obesity and PCOS go hand in hand. If the problem is not addressed in the initial stage then it can lead to diabetes and fertility issues.

Ma’am suggested to the students to keep a check on their health and hygiene and go for a regular check up in case they feel any difficulty. She also mentioned that a healthy lifestyle is extremely important and as it helps in improving strength, building healthy bones, weight control and reducing stress and anxiety. The session closed with an OPEN HOUSE where Dr. Kachru answered the queries of the students.

DISTRESS TO DE-STRESS: HANDLING EXAMINATION STRESS

During examinations, it is important for the students to be in a calm state of mind and to deal with any emotion which may be causing distress. To address the feelings and concerns of students and to help them manage their emotions; Dr. Alka Saxena, Deputy  Director (Health & Wellness), Blue Bells Group of Schools) along with her Resource Centre team comprising of counsellors, Ms. Renu Khare and Ms. Shreya Kumar prepared an interactive module for the students . The session to deal with Examination Stress was taken by the Resource Centre team for the students of Class X on November 20, 2017 and Class XII on December 1, 2017 respectively.

The session included ways to identify stress and some internal and external factors that lead to stress during examinations. The objective was to facilitate students to become aware of the different signs of stress. The students were also apprised about how they can identify automatic negative thoughts, the triggers and learn helpful and adaptive ways to manage and deal with  them during exams.

Prioritizing of tasks was also taken up to emphasize on giving importance to revision time along with identifying time consuming tasks so that they can be better prepared.

The students were apprised about three steps of planning their time effectively. At first making an overall planner, followed by a weekly time-table and then listing the daily things to do. These can be made keeping a SMART time-table in mind where ‘S’ stand for Specific, ‘M’ for Measurable, ‘A’ for Achievable, ‘R’ for Realistic, ‘T’ for Time-Bound.

The students understood the three learning styles that were shared with them, which were: Word smart, Picture smart and Number smart. They were encouraged to identify their own learning style and incorporate them so that their learning and recalling become efficient.

The students were encouraged to identify the time wasters they face, like phone calls, social networking, poor planning, cluttered desk and procrastination; especially when they are preparing for their examinations. These were followed by tips that can help them to increase their productivity.

In order to improve students’ concentration span, a few concentration exercises were conducted. These exercises were appreciated by the students as they all participated enthusiastically. These exercises were followed by a short progressive muscular relaxation and guided imagery. Both of which helped them to feel calm and relaxed, which will later help them in increasing their concentration.

The importance of a healthy lifestyle, which includes a balanced diet regular exercises and good sleeping habits, was also emphasized upon. The harmful effects that simulating activities like T.V., phones, video games, arguments, etc. can have before sleeping was also discussed.

The session concluded on a positive note where it was shared with the students that they could connect individually with the counsellors for any further support.

CHILDREN’S DAY CELEBRATION

‘Every child born into the world is a new thought of God, an ever fresh and radiant possibility.’

Children’s Day was celebrated with much pomp, fanfare and enthusiasm through a very special morning assembly, which for a change, was conducted solely by the teaching fraternity of the school on November 14 & 17, 2017 by the  Primary Wing and Senior Wing respectively. The students cheered excitedly as the teachers presented the prayer, the pledge, and the news, the thought for the day, amazing facts and a talk on Jawaharlal Nehru. 

 A Special Assembly was commemorated with immense joy, enthusiasm and magnificence by the teachers of the Pre- Primary & Primary Wing for the students of Classes Nur-V on November 14, 2017  . All the Assembly features were presented by the teachers  who disguised themselves as children. The assembly commenced with a soulful rendition “Teri Hai Zameen” followed by Pledge, Thought of the Day , Vocabulary Words and Fun NEWS by the teachers . Teachers also presented a  skit “When Aliens Visited Our School” emphasizing the importance of School Rules, Courtesy and Friendship. Some interactive fun games like Memory Game and How Well Do You Know Your Teachers were played with the students. All the students participated enthusiastically. The assembly concluded with a special rendition by the teachers “Another Day In Paradise”. The little ones were ecstatic to spot their teachers emerge from the classroom and take on these unusual roles. Their constant cheering prompted the teachers to put forward their best!

The Senior Wing students paid their unfathomed tribute to the greatest adventurer, the optimist, the visionary who believed in a modern India and laid the foundation for it. The students presented the thought for the day, amazing facts on Chacha Nehru and his ideologies that changed the fortune of India.

The Management of Brahm Dutt Blue Bells Public School values each and every member of the teaching faculty  and in sync with the mission of enhancing holistic learning among the teachers , a Workshop was organized in the school on November 11, 2017 in collaboration with Art of Living Foundation .  Founded in 1981 by Gurudev Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, The Art of Living is an educational and humanitarian movement engaged in stress-management and service initiatives. To help individuals get rid of stress and experience inner peace , a stress-elimination session  was conducted by Swami Shiv Pal which included breathing techniques, meditation and yoga. Ask any Art of Living teacher how one acquires an unshakeable smile and you will get the simplest yet most profound knowledge: by using the breath, a practical tool that restores body, mind and spirit into its natural rhythm of being.

 Teachers practiced Bhastrika Pranayama, which is an excellent breathing exercise. It keeps the body healthy and mind happy. A happy mind lets you stay calm; make better decisions and improve the overall quality of life. It was an interactive session which was quite enriching for the teachers. 

GURUNANAK JAYANTI CELEBRATION

“ Beyond speech is the glory of the Great One. He is the Creator, mighty and benign.” Faith is the light that guides through the darkness. There is a single power ruling this world i.e. God, He is the omnipotent, omniscient and the omnipresent force that guides us in all out ventures. To commemorate Guru Nanak Jayanti, Blue Bellians organized a special Morning Assembly on November 2 & 3, 2017 for Primary and Senior Wing respectively with utmost religiosity. The Assembly commenced with a “Shabad Gaan- Nirgun Raakh Liya” adding to the serenity of the occasion. The students of Class I B presented a skit on the life of Guru Nanak Dev ji. Class IV B threw a light on the preaching of the Guru through placards, carrying forward the message of humanity and community service. Special feature of the assembly was the “Newsroom” where students created a live news room through PPT and read the news .The students from both Pre-primary Wing and Primary Wing attended the assembly. The birthday of Guru Nanak Dev ji , the founder of the Sikh religion was celebrated amidst plethora of cultural events, talk, hymns and prayers. Ms. Jyoti Ganotra and the students of Class VIII A enchanted soul enriching ‘Shabads’ that captivated one and all present in the occasion. On the auspicious day of celebration, Gazal Dagar of Class XI B was conferred the prestigious Shri. B. D. Gulati Scholarship for her meritorious performance in the curricular and co-curricular activities by the Management of the school.

INTER SCHOOL VOLLEYBALL TOURNAMENT 2017 UNDER THE AEGIS OF GPSC

Brahm Dutt Blue Bells Public School , SECTOR 10, GURUGRAM PROUDLY HOSTED INTER SCHOOL VOLLEYBALL TOURNAMENT 2017 UNDER THE AEGIS OF GPSC Champions are made when potential is converted into performance. Brahm Dutt Blue Bells Public School proudly hosted the Inter School Volley Ball Tournament 2017 under the aegis of GPSC on October 27 & 28, 2017 . The spirit of sports was the underlying theme of this event. The Opening Ceremony on October 27,2017 , focused on the fact that a sound mind resides in a sound body. All the participating schools were accorded a formal welcome by Ms. Anjali Nagpal, Principal of the school. The Sports Captain Parth Batla led the different participating schools in a very well coordinated and disciplined March Past followed by the Oath Taking Ceremony where the student leaders of different schools administered the oath and took the pledge to pay the game in the right earnest. The salute of the marching contingents was taken by Ms. Anjali Nagpal , Principal of the school . Sports across the globe raise mutual understanding and promote peace in international relations which is the need of the hour. It furthermore helps to overcome prejudice against each other. The students presented a breath taking dance on the theme –‘KHELO RE’ dedicated to the spirit of sports. Ms. Arpita Acharya , Vice Principal , BBPS declared the Event open which provided a platform to the sportspersons to exhibit their talent in a competitive manner. The Closing Ceremony Cum Valedictory Ceremony on October 28, 2017 was embellished with the illustrious presence of Dr. Saroj Suman Gulati, Director , Blue Bells Group of Schools. A special dance presentation emphasizing the importance of sports and culture in our lives mesmerized the audience . The Winners were felicitated by Director Madam . Winners Trophy for the Under 14 Boys Category was clinched by Aravali Public School and the Runners Up Trophy was bagged by Gyan Devi Public School, Sector 17, Gurugram. Delhi Public School, Sector 45 proved its excellence on the court and bagged the Winners Trophy in Under 14 Girls Category and Runners Up Trophy was won by DAV, Sector 14, Gurugram. Speaking on the occasion , Dr. Saroj Suman Gulati, esteemed Director , BBGS lauded the Tournament and stated that it was perfect and that she could gauge the pains and efforts taken by teachers and students for such FLAWLESS presentation. Ma’am congratulated the Principal and the entire team for the event. Ma’am further added that students must orient themselves with the happenings of the world and the parents and teachers must take care to inculcate moral values in the children . The event was given a befitting close with a National Anthem.

FOUNDATION DAY CELEBRATION

Honesty, character, integrity, faith, love and loyalty are the foundation stones for a balanced success. Institutions are like families if well –governed and nurtured they spring forth into the fountain of everlasting growth and development. The objective of the school has always been to provide holistic education and all-round development to the youngsters to meet the challenges of the 21st century educational mindscape. To provide a unique learning platform to the students to unleash their hidden potential , our Founder Chairperson Shri. B. D. Gulati ji and Director Dr. Saroj Suman Gulati envisioned a dream and now this dream has taken a shape of a beautiful reality in form of Brahm Dutt Blue Bells Public School. The foundation stone of this unique institution was laid on October 25, 2001. To commemorate this day, Foundation Day was celebrated in the school with utmost enthusiasm. The spirit of celebration was evoked by an auspicious Hawan Ceremony graced by Dr. Saroj Suman Gulati, esteemed Director , BBGS followed by a special Assembly to mark the celebration. The well-coordinated programme at the Morning Assembly on October 25, 2017, took everyone down the memory lane and presented a kaleidoscopic view of the glorious achievements of the school in the first quarter of the year , under the able guidance of our Honourable Director Madam. Speaking on the occasion, Director Dr. Saroj Suman Gulati wished everyone on the occasion of Foundation Day and highlighted the significance of team spirit in attaining our objectives in all spheres . Ma’am wished all glory, luck and fame to the Blue Bellians for their future ventures.

“Exploring Mars : Rediscovering Earth”

A TRIBUTE TO A LEGEND : CELEBRATING THE BIRTH ANNIVERSARY OF DR. A.P.J. ABDUL KALAM “Exploring Mars : Rediscovering Earth” “Look at the sky. We are not alone. The whole universe is friendly to us and conspires only to give the best to those who dream and work.” Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam The school paid its heartiest tribute to the Missile Man of India- a legendary and iconic President Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam by celebrating his Birth Anniversary . A Special Assembly “Exploring Mars : Rediscovering Earth” was organized by the Primary Wing of Brahm Dutt Blue Bells Public School on October 25, 2017 with a view to encourage and inculcate Research Based Learning amongst the students. The little explorers of Class V C presented a skit “A Trip To Mars” where they shared information about similarities between our planet Earth and Mars. Mars is only about one-half the diameter of Earth, but both planets have roughly the same amount of dry land surface area. This is because over two-thirds of the Earth's surface is covered by oceans, whereas the present surface of Mars has no liquid water. Mars and Earth are very different planets when it comes to temperature, size, and atmosphere, but geologic processes on the two planets are surprisingly similar. On Mars, we see volcanoes, canyons, and impact basins much like the ones we see on Earth. But till now Earth is the only planet which sustains life. The students found the assembly very informative and enjoyed a glimpse of the Universe.

AN ECO –FRIENDLY SAFE DIWALI CELEBRATION WITH INTER HOUSE HERITAGE QUIZ & RANGOLI COMPETITION

Diwali, the festival of lights signifies the end of darkness (ignorance) and the beginning of light that enlightens everyone. The festival brings light into our lives both literally and figuratively, as it is not the festival of fumes and firecrackers . In sync with the mission to sensitize the students on celebrating Eco-friendly Diwali , an Inter House Heritage Quiz & Rangoli Competition was organized for the students of Classes VI-VIII and Classes IX to XII respectively on October 17, 2017 . To hone the thinking, analytical, reasoning and cognitive skills in the students and also to provide them a platform to connect to their rich heritage, an Inter House Quiz Competition for classes VI to VIII on the Hindu epic Mythology –Ramayana was well researched and students enthusiastically participated . All the participants prepared well on Indian mythology and Indian History and at last it was a battle of nerves that decided the winner. The students of Classes IX to XII portrayed their understanding of the concept –‘ SAY NO TO CRACKERS’ by making artistic and thought provoking Rangoli on the theme. DIWALI CELEBRATION

“All the lights of the world cannot be compared even to a ray of the inner light of the Self. Merge yourself in this light of lights and enjoy the supreme Deepavali” The celebration of Deepavali- 'The festival of lights' came alive at Brahm Dutt Blue Bells Public School, Gurgaon on October 17, 2017 with the Special Assembly “Enlightenment” conducted by Classes Nur- V. The School choir presented a melodious bhajan to begin the assembly on the auspicious occasion invoking God’s blessings. Class V students presented a skit “Say no to crackers” sensitizing the students about the ill-effects of crackers on plants , animals and environment and to celebrate “Green Diwali”. Dance Presentation “Deepavali Aayi Re”added to the festive fervor. Several activities were also conducted in Class Nur-V to mark the occasion. Little ones from the Pre-primary wing came dressed up in Traditional Dresses. Students of class Nursery and LKG made chandeliers. UKG students decorated big earthern diyas coloured in white and red. The technique of flower and leaf printing was used for decoration. Class I-II made Bandhanwars using used bottles and disposable glasses. Class III-V students showcased their creative best through “Lantern Making and Flower Discs”. All these were displayed during the assembly presentations and appreciated by one and all. School Principal Ms Anjali Nagpal enlightened the students with the message that the light within us must help to dispel the darkness and spread love, warmth and kindness as well as in giving and sharing.
