FESTA LITERARIA – AN ODYSSEY OF LITERATURE
HOSTED BY Brahm Dutt Blue Bells Public School, SECTOR 10, GURGAON

In an attempt to create sensitivity towards literature and appreciate it in its varied moods and genres, Festa Literaria- Lit Fest was organized for the students of Classes III & IV  on  October 10, 2015 . Mrs.SoumyaGulati,  Assistant Director (Academic Innovation and Development) , BBGS was the inspiration and guiding force of this magnificent literary journey. She whole heartedly supported the students and the teachers to concretize their dream to reality.

As literature builds experience, the children expanded their horizons through vicarious experiences. They learnt about the past as well as the present and learnt about a variety of cultures, including their own. They discovered the common goals and similar emotions found in people of all times and places. The most interesting and invigorating phase of the Lit Fest was the Theatrical Presentations by the students of Classes III and IV. The students brought alive the fairy tales , popular stories and ideas for change through their presentations. The unique feature of all these depictions was the participation of the entire class as all the students of the class were involved in this creative journey.

 The eyes of the parents were enthralled to see their little ones performing in front of them by bringing alive the stories which were a part of their healthy growing. They were taken down the memory lane and the child in them was elated. The Junk Band of the school- Milieu enthralled all the parents with their innovative rhythm and beat along with melodious songs. The performance was wholeheartedly appreciated and applauded by all.
 Speaking on the occasion, Mrs. Soumya Gulati, Assistant Director (Academic Innovation and Development)  , BBGS, congratulated the students and the teachers for their marvellous presentations. She also thanked the parents for sparing their valuable time and gracing the occasion. She motivated the students to develop good reading habits which are a pre-requisite to hone the language skills.
It was an overwhelming experience for all the members as it unleashed  the talent and potential lying dormant within the students.

The World Of Substances: The Misleading Mirage

As part of The Health & Wellness Program in BBGS, group work was conducted with students of classes VIII -XII on ‘The World Of Substances: The Misleading Mirage’ in the month of October 2015 from October 9 to October 30, 2015 at Brahm Dutt Blue Bells Public School . This theme seemed pertinent keeping in mind the developmental need of adolescent students as well as changing socio-cultural fabric of our society. This module was developed in house by Dr.Alka Saxena, Assistant Director ( Health & Wellness) , BBGS and her team of counselors , teachers and psychologists, with the objective of empowering our students to make responsible choices.
It is not unknown that in adolescence, students find themselves amidst many conflicting demands, often at crossroads, having to make choices, dealing with peer pressure, managing their curiosity, needing to become autonomous beings, experimenting and discovering on their own. With this understanding as a backdrop, the module on Substance Use And Abuse focused on imparting correct information on various substances, understand various reasons and factors that may lead one to try these substances deliberately or unknowingly. The tangible ways of coping with friends, social pressures, personal distress were shared so that the students  can identify the danger of having a quick  relief through substance use, or experimenting or wanting to try. 
In other words, group work aimed to create awareness at multiple levels. Real life testimonials were shared with students to raise consciousness regarding harmful impact of substances and how often one time use that started as fun ends up in addiction. Not just physiological impairment, but also psychological and social dysfunctionality was brought to the fore while discussing the aftermath of substance abuse.
Specific coping techniques were demonstrated through role plays in order to equip students with many ways of declining or protecting themselves. Practical tips were given to provide students with concrete ways of resisting when experiencing peer pressure. Also, the module attempted to create normalcy and acceptance around seeking help. Those who are already into substance use or know friends who are indulging in substance use; a brief was shared on the treatment available.
The module was conducted in two consecutive  sessions of one and a half hours each for all the sections of Classes VIII to XII, followed by students submitting their queries and concerns related to the group session. The concerns  were  responded to   and the students were also told about walk-in sessions by prior appointment with  the school counselor to talk about their specific concerns around the theme.

GRAND PARENTS DAY CELEBRATION

“Grandparents are special people with wisdom and pride, they are always there to nurture young saplings in divine light…”
The elders of family play a pivotal role in shaping the personality of the children. The golden string of love, compassion, warmth, devotion and patience bind the hearts of the grandparents to their grandchildren’s. To salute the divinity of the grandparents in shaping the futuristic citizens of the Nation, “GRANDPARENTS DAY” was celebrated with utmost zest and zeal in the school on October 3, 2015.
The Celebration began with a formal welcome to the august Grandparents by the Principal of the school and thereafter the students presented a soulful cultural programme to express the heartiest love and devotion for the divine angels in their life i.e. grandparents. To make the day refreshing and enjoyable for them various games were played in which the Grandparents enthusiastically volunteered for participation. It was an enthralling moment for all, as the grandparents were taken back down the memory lane and child in them was elated.
Speaking on the occasion, the Primary Wing Incharge – Ms. Sushma Malhotra of the school thanked all the revered grandparents for sparing their valuable time and making the moment momentous for all.

HINDI DIWAS CELEBRATION

“Language is the key to the heart as it opens all the channels of communication.”
Today the world is moving at a fast pace and in this competitive World , the people who have good communication skills have an edge over the others.  To inculcate and infuse this sense of pride in the students about our mother tongue ‘Hindi’, Hindi Diwas was celebrated in the school on September 9, 2015.  A special Morning Assembly was organized in  Hindi tracing the origin of the language and its various sub divisions.  The students presented all the features of the Assembly in Hindi and gave memorable performances to signify the impact of the language in honing the skills of expression and effective communication.  The students of Class II recited humorous rhymes i.e.  “Hasya Kavita”, which received a thunderous applause by everyone present. To show the conflict of various maatras used in the Hindi language, a skit - “MAATRAON KA DWAND”, was presented by the students of class III. The skit gave a beautiful message of unity and how language can act as a unifying force in India.
  The Morning Assembly concluded on a promising note where the faculty members of the Hindi Department highlighted the importance of the language in today’s scenario.  It was a promising beginning of the day.

TEACHERS DAY CELEBRATION

“Good teaching is as much about passion as it is about reason .... Its about caring for your craft, having a passion for it, and conveying that passion to everyone, most importantly to
your students.”
The role of the teacher has undergone a sea change where she is not only a mentor, guide, friend but also a philosopher and facilitator. To honour the efforts of the teaching staff, the students of Class XII organized a Special Morning Assembly to pay their gratitude towards their teachers on September 4, 2015. The students of Pre-Primary & Primary Wing also joined the festivities and organized various games for the teachers in which they enthusiastically participated. The students presented a story of Eklavya to emphasize on the importance of the day. The teachers thoroughly enjoyed the game of Musical Chairs anchored by the students of Class I.
The Seniors also organized various games for the teachers where they enthusiastically participated. The entire school was soaked in the spirit of festivity and happiness. The students presented a soulful cultural programme to make the day more momentous for the teachers.
Speaking on the occasion, the revered Principal of the school congratulated the students for a marvelous presentation and extended the heartfelt felicitations on behalf of the Management & Director of the school to all the members of the teaching fraternity.
The most remarkable feature of the day was when the students of Class XII donned the hat of the  teacher and went to the classes to teach various subjects. The confidence and their Management Skills were reflected in their conduct and behavior. It was a unique rejuvenating experience for all.

INSPIRATIONAL AND HONEST ADDRESS BY THE PRIME MINISTER

On the eve of Teachers Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed 800 students and 60 teachers from various schools in New Delhi. Prime Minister  made a powerful presentation spotlighting points that can impact students and teachers lives in a powerful manner. As per the directives of CBSE, the school made arrangements to show the telecast to the students. The event was shown to the students of Classes VI to X were shown the live telecast and the recorded  transcript was shown to the students of Classes III to V so that the message can percolate to the deeper level. The major areas of his inspirational address were:-
• Mother gives birth to us, a teacher gives life to us, a void remains in our life when there is no balance.
• A student represents his teacher, he is the canvas painted by his teacher. It is the only pair that distributes knowledge.
• Teachers should write about students who left a mark on them, which would show their involvement with their students.
• There should be clarity on why you want to be a leader – is it just to win elections, or to serve the people. A leadership quality needs to be developed to be a leader. When you establish that, people are affected, and you also want to work selflessly for others. Then, you dont need qualifications, people will make you leaders.
• A teacher can never retire. Being a teacher is not like any other occupation. We have to stop becoming robots.

• PM Modi talked about the importance of teachers and called for the need of creating good quality teachers in the country who could be exported to the world. He said people who had achieved something in life and taken to a profession such as doctors and engineers should teach students in a school for one period in a week.
• Taking about the significance of Teachers Day, PM Modi remembered Dr Radhakrishnan and said serving the nation does not only mean doing grand things; doing small things is a big service to the nation.
•  PM Modi reiterated what he had said on his Independence-Day speech of having toilet facilities for girl students in every school.
•  Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that nation building should become a national movement and every individual should be associated with it.
•  Giving encouragement to girl-education, PM said an educated girl further educates at least two more families.
•  Inspirational lives of great personalities help in shaping our character, PM Modi called the students to read biographies to explore about the lives of great people.
• Describing himself as a taskmaster, PM Modi said he worked hard and expected the same from others. He added he expected work to be completed on time.
• Prime Minister Modi concluded his speech by saying that a teacher must play an important role through a persons life. A teacher-student relationship must always be nurtured. Keep the child in you alive. Keep smiling and playing.

JANAMASTMI CELEBRATION

Festivals are characterized by colour, gaiety, enthusiasm, prayers and rituals. They are the crest of our culture and take the soul to ecstasy….
The students of class IA presented a special assembly on Janmashtami to celebrate the birthday of Lord Krishna on Monday 31 August 2015. The  Assembly started on an auspicious note with the prayer and Gayatri mantra to make the atmosphere serene and pristine. The rendition of the school prayer and pledge instilled the feeling of belongingness and responsibility in the students. The students enchanted some popular Shlokas from the Bhagwad Gita. The most mesmerizing part of the celebration was when the students came dressed up as Radha and Krishna and enacted various roles of Sri Krishna from childhood as Makhan Chor. The mythology and history about Lord Krishna who was an incarnation of Lord Vishnu was shared with all along with his preaching for life in Bhagwad Gita in Hindi and English.
It was followed by a melodious Bhajan sung by the choir which added solemnity to the occasion and a scintillating dance performance by the group. Dressed in the attire of Krishna and gopikas, they spread the message of ancient Puranas and traditions. This event brought awareness among the students  about traditional values and rooted them to their rich cultural heritage in a play way method.
Speaking on the occasion, Principal Maam  wanted students to imbibe good values of life where the heart is connected with a golden string of love, compassion and warmth. Maam urged all the students to be good human beings with humane attitude towards all. 

NATIONAL SPORTS DAY 2015

National Sports Day is celebrated on August 29 every year to commemorate the birth of the legendary Hockey player Major Dhyan Chand, who is widely considered the greatest hockey player of all time as he had won  gold medals for India at the 1928, 1932 and 1936 Olympics. Known as "The Wizard" for his superb ball control, Dhyan Chand played his Final International Match in 1948. He scored over 400 goals during his International career.

 Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday paid tribute to hockey legend Major Dhyan Chand on his 110th birth anniversary and extended best wishes to all sports enthusiasts across the country on the occasion of the National Sports Day. He extended his felicitations and showered his blessings by saying  , "Best wishes to sports enthusiasts and tributes to Major Dhyan Chand on National Sports Day. May sports and sportsman spirit shine in India" .

With the country, the school also celebrated National Sports Day on August 29, 2015. The Physical Education Department organized various matches on the field along with Quiz and Paragraph Writing  to fill students with a spirit of enthusiasm and imbibe in them Sportsman spirit. The various events of the day were:-

• Football Match Under 14 Boys Vs Under 17 Boys Match
• Inter Class Football Match For Boys And Girls From Class V 
• Inter Class Sports Quiz Competition For Class  IV 
• Paragraph  Writing  On National Sports Day For Class III
The results of the Quiz(Class IV) and the football match (Class V) are as follows:

 FOOTBALL MATCH:
Team 1 – Class V A and V B
Team 2 – Class V C and V D
Team 1 – Class V A and V B were the winners for boys and girls both.
The students enjoyed these activities and learnt about the importance of the day as well as a unique place occupied by Sports in our life. It not only leads to physical fitness but also is required to maintain good mental health which is pertinent for holistic development.

RAKHI CELEBRATION

RakshBandhan, a festival symbolizing the bond of love was celebrated by students of Class II in a celebration organized on 28 August 2015. The golden thread of Rakhi epitomizing the bond of love between brother and sister was taught and shown to the students through enactment of the festival.

The students came dressed up in traditional costumes and were apprised about the importance of Rakshabandhan. The celebrations also included  RAKHI MAKING ACTIVITIY using waste materials like : stars, buttons, stickers, mirrors, old cards, etc.


It was a successful endeavour  to enlighten the students on the celebration in an eventful manner along with  spreading the social message of recycle, reuse and replenish. The festival was celebrated with joy, fervour and was enjoyed by the students to the fullest.

The students celebrated RakshaBandhan with a difference……in its the spirit of Universal Brotherhood.

INTER HOUSE AD - COMPETITION

“A mind is a fire to be kindled and not a vessel to be filled.”

The prime aim of teaching is to unravel the latent talents and hidden creativity of the child, to polish and shape the rough diamond into a glittering and shinning individual. We believe that all students have unique talents, whether in academics, sports, communication, art, craft or drama; every child is special. Our mission is to recognize and enhance each individuals special talent. We provide education with an objective to empower students to make decisions, to find creative solutions and plan effective action strategies. The curriculum is structured in a manner that keeps the child in touch with the ever-changing world trends, right from the junior years to the senior  level.

We constantly revamp, reinvent and evaluate the learning  strategy to create the most appropriate education that the child deserves. To provide a unique platform to the student to develop their creative and critical thinking skills along with the analytical skills , an AD Competition was organized in the Primary Wing on August 26, 2015.
The topics given for the competition were-Wifi Nation , Make-In-India, Beti Bachao-Beti Padao , Sawchch Bharat and all the Houses with a team of four students each gave a spectacular presentation with a message which was appreciated by all. Sarojini Naidu House emerged as the Winners, C.V Raman House bagged the Runners-Up position followed by Kalpana Chawla and Radha Krishnan House.
The Ad- Comp was preceded by a Special Assembly by Class IV C . The students brought alive the theme- Healthy Me. Along with all the features of the Assembly, the students explained about the five kinds of nutrients required for a healthy body i.e. Carbohydrates, Fats, Proteins, Vitamins and Minerals through Role Play . All the students were also briefed about the importance of Balanced Diet. It was a learning experience for all the members who were a part of the Assembly.
