The Health & Wellness Programme for Blue Bells Group of Schools (BBGS) was established in the year 2009 by the Deputy Director (Health & Wellness), BBGS. Over a period of time, a full-fledged team of Counsellors and Teachers have been groomed to empower students.
The Health & Wellness Resource Centre was established in the year 2015 keeping in mind the needs and demands of BBGS as well as other schools. The centre incessantly develops the modules, workshops, and policies for students, teachers, and parents after thorough and extensive research.
The following programmes come under the Health & Wellness initiative.
1.Medical Care Facility and Regular Health Check-ups
We have a well-equipped Medical Room in the school with a full-time doctor and trained nurses to provide necessary first aid to the students in emergencies. The Annual Health Check-up is an important event. Along with maintaining the medical records of each child, health advisories on the prevention of various illnesses such as Swine Flu, Dengue, Chicken Pox, etc. are regular activities under the programme.
Please note:
- Students shall be provided first aid only on the school premises in case of a medical problem.
- In case of chronic diseases, the school will only inform the parents telephonically. Parents will be expected to reach the school at the earliest.
- Expenses on first aid given at school will be borne by the school. All other expenses in case of hospitalisation/visit to private clinic/medicine will be borne by the parents.
2.Individual Counselling Support for Students, Parents, and Teachers
We have a team of counsellors who provide individual counselling support wherein various emotional, behavioural, psychological, and academic issues of the students are addressed. The Counselling and Guidance Cell creates a space for addressing parents’ as well as teachers’ concerns, along with offering emotional and psychological support to students and helping them in resolving their difficulties.
The Counselling and Guidance Cell also collaborates with teachers, parents, and other personnel to facilitate a child-oriented environment.
3.Value Education and Life Skills Education Programme
Value Education and Life Skills classes are a part of the curriculum for the students of Classes I to X. These classes provide the requisite help and guidance to the students to imbibe values and life skills that will help them lead a balanced and healthy life. Values are guiding principles, or standards of behaviour, which are regarded as desirable, important, and held in high esteem by the society in which a person lives. Life skills are the abilities for adaptive and positive behaviour that enable individuals deal effectively with the demands and challenges of everyday life. To inculcate values in our children, we have partnered with School Cinema, wherein the students of Classes I to V imbibe values through watching age-appropriate movies and doing hands-on activities. Life Skills classes are made interactive by incorporating different methodologies like showing videos, role-plays, group discussions, brainstorming, poster making, and other activities.
4.The Health & Wellness Club
The Health & Wellness Club was set up in the year 2009 for students of Classes VI to X. These clubs are conducted by the counsellors and the Life Skills Facilitators. In the club, we cater to the intellectual, creative, analytical, and analogical skills of the students. We have worked on various themes like Gender Sensitivity, Anti-Bullying, Peer Pressure, Body Image, and so on.
5.Peer Educator Programme
The Health & Wellness team of the brahm Dutt Brahm Dutt Blue Bells Public School launched its own Peer Educator Programme in the session 2015–16, which consists of a Health & Wellness Ambassador from Class XII, a Peer Mentor from Class XI, and Peer Educators from Classes VI to X. These students are an integral part of the Student Council and are selected through a well-planned process. They work as a bridge between mentors and pupils and conduct specially designed sessions for the students along with counsellors and Life Skills facilitators.
6.The Health & Wellness Fiesta
The Health & Wellness team believes that every child is potentially the light of the world. To hone and sharpen the life skills of the multi-talented youngsters today, as well as to provide a platform where Gen Now can share and exchange their creative, critical, and innovative ideas, the Health & Wellness week (‘Empezar—A Beginning’ for the Primary Wing and ‘Genesis’ for the Middle and Senior Wings) is celebrated every year as an Intra- and Inter-School event. Students from Classes III to XII participate enthusiastically in various activities that provide them an opportunity to express themselves on a wider platform.
7.Career Confluence
To accustom and familiarise students with the multitude of career options that are suitable for them, ‘Career Confluence’ is organised each year for students of Classes IX to XII and their parents by the school under the aegis of the Health & Wellness Programme. As a part of this event, the students and parents get a chance to attend Guest Lectures by eminent career counsellors. It also provides them with an opportunity to interact with the representatives of various institutes. This further helps them to get an insight into the different institutes and the courses offered.
8.Group Work for Students
Group work is developed for students across classes within the school set-up. It aims at sensitising students to various themes related to health, well-being, social, emotional, and cognitive domains. Sessions for these modules are conducted regularly for all age groups of students.
The themes for Group Work are based on concerns that are shared by students, parents, and teachers. The team leader has frequent interactions with the Principal, Vice-Principal, and the Wing in charges to understand the challenges the students are facing. Some of the themes that have been covered with the students are: Handling Examination Stress, Study Skills, Goal Setting, Substance Abuse, Understanding Emotions, Empathy, Understanding Puberty, Safe Touch, and Transition of students from Primary to Middle Wing.
9.Workshops for Parents
The Health & Wellness team also conducts workshops for parents on some of the topics that are covered with the students, along with some other topics designed specially to sensitise them. This provides clarity to the parents about the Group Work being done with the students and helps them be in sync with the school system.
10.Teacher Empowerment Programme
Workshops are regularly conducted for teachers at the school to sensitise them on various important issues. This keeps them in sync with the values and beliefs of the school.
11.Policies
Keeping our students’ safety in mind, the Health & Wellness Resource Centre has formulated the Child Protection Policy. This policy applies to all employees and other persons who come in contact with the school system. The team is currently working on other policies as well.
12.Committees
The following committees have been created by the Health & Wellness Resource Centre:
- Child Abuse Monitoring Committee (headed by the Principal)
- Anti-Bullying Committee (headed by the Vice-Principal)
- Career Counselling Committee (headed by the Senior Wing Coordinator)
13.Social Initiatives
The school is also working on social initiatives to reach out and help the wider community. The Health & Wellness team has collaborated with the Indian Cancer Society and HelpAge India, through which students participate in events like poster making, slogan writing, debate, street plays, etc. to raise awareness about cancer. The team also plans to sensitise students by collaborating with and being a part of more social causes.
